The Message to Garcia

Today in Human Geo today we read a message to Garcia. This story is about how President McKinley asked and asked who could take a message to Garcia. A man came to McKinley and said there is this man named Rowan who says he knows where Garcia is. Rowan took the message without question on where he was going, he just took the letter and left. Rowan was not like must people than and even today. If you were to ask people today to go and look up the life of Correggio they would say why can’t you do it, who is that, etc. In class we also talked about the writer of a message to Garcia, Elbert Hubbard. Elbert was born in June 19 1857; he married in June of 1881. Strange enough Elbert wrote about a couple on the Titanic. When the Titanic was sinking they told women and kids on lifeboats first then men, but this couple refused to leave each other’s side so they stood on the boat holding hands as it sunk. Then a couple years later Elbert and his wife were on the Lusitania when it was struck by a torpedo. Elbert and his wife did not wasn’t to be separated so they locked themselves in a bedroom and held hand as it sunk, just like the couple he wrote about. Weird right.

In class today we finished hooking everyone up with a blogger account.  Since I was already finished I was able to talk to the people around me or get on the computer. Since I had homework I got on the computer and did my homework. When I was finished I talked to the people around me until the bell rang..

ArĂȘte- the highest human knowledge

Polis- the Greek word for city

Socrates- was a classical Greek philosopher

The death of Socrates- he was commanded to drink hemlock, or go to exile. He chose hemlock.

Today in Human Geo we talked about the syllabus. This is telling us what to expect in this class, plus how the grading works, what we need for this class, how he deals with late work and absences. It was nice that Mr. Schick took the time to go over that, because even though I read it over the weekend, he gave a little more description and clarification on different things. I found out just by participating I can improve my overall grade.  The test will still make a bigger impact than participating, but participation still counts. After we went over the syllabus, Mr. Schick helped anyone who was having trouble with their blog. Funny enough I happened to be one of those people, but Mr. Schick and I fixed the problem quickly.  After today’s class, I feel much more comfortable than I did Thursday and can’t wait for the year ahead of me.

First Day of School

First day of School

On Thursday morning, my first day of high school, I was excited, nervous and worried all at the same time. I was excited because I was starting a brand new school with all new teachers and new people to meet. I was worried because it was a new school and I wasn’t all that comfortable navigating the hallways.  I was nervous because I did not know any of the teachers, what their expectations would be, and I did not know if they were going to be friendly or not. It turns out all of my teachers are very friendly and welcoming. They asked what school we went to last year, do we play any sports, do you have family in the school right now, or have gone through the school. By the end of the day all my worries and nerves were forgotten. I knew that I had a tough, but fun year ahead of me.  I am excited to start this next chapter of my life on Monday.
